ACTUALLY! The REAL plural to octopus isn't octopi at all, it's actually octopodes because Octopus is a Greek word and the correct Greek ending is -podes. Over time we've ended up putting a -ti at the end which is in fact a Latin ending on a Greek word which doesn't make sense. Octo-podes (Eight-foot) literal translation. It doesn't matter generally what the word ends in that determines its plural ending, it's really the root of the word and the corresponding root ending. Yay linguistics!
