How's this for a solution? Stop arguing about books. I love books, and I love to argue, but seriously? Must you have an argument about Harry Potter just because of a silly text message?
Fucking RIGHT 10:05! If being an adult means that I have a "social necessity" to give up LOVING the Harry Potter series, than shit, I don't want to be an adult. Harry Potter has helped start millions of kids and adults to actually enjoy reading. There's something to be said there.
8:30, you're an idiot. Millions of people (obviously including adults) have read the books and seen the movies, is it really out of your league to grasp that some people have good enough memories to recall the name of a character when they see it?
8:52 - it must be hard living a life so constrained by socially informed age limits. Can't enjoy Harry Potter because you're too scared what other people will think of you, eh? That's sad.
I think this is great. Clearly there's texts on this site for everyone. Harry Potter fans like this. Non-harry potter fans, maybe not so much, why do people have to curse it out?
p.s. you're missing out. I'm 20 and I love it. and as far as them being childrens books, that was never j.k. rowlings intention, she said so herself, and I can't imagine letting a child read the final 4 books.
You pot. Me kettle?
Hmm what's age-appropriate for an adult? Watching movies about teenage wizards and mythical creatures? Watching something that kids 5 and up (or possibly younger) dress up for? Have I reached the 'socially-informed age' you mentioned yet?
9:33- Lavender Brown is another Gryffindor in Harry's year who dates Ron in the 6th book. She's really clingy & awful, but the movie made her look like a total creeper/stalker. Then again, the movies never get anything spot on.
harry potter has the fantasy element that kids love, while adults like the layering and the depth of the characters. I love harry potter, and so does my father. People that say harry potter is for kids have clearly never read the books. It's been obvious that jk Rowling has been writing for adults since the middle of the series. And by the way, Stephen king, a best selling author for ADULTS, says he loves the series.
did he use that analogy? but that would really be uncool if you did go all lavender brown on him.
(haha, i just realized that 'anal' is part of analogy!)
thank you 10:35. i would also like to add that i sell tickets at a movie theater, and a very large portion of all the harry potter tickets have been sold to older teens and adults. hell, people even go see ice age, up etc on dates and think its perfectly normal.
8:38 Why does it "obviously include adults'? Is that how you justify watching Harry Potter? Do you try the spells 'just in case' they work? Are you upset when you can't get to Hogwarts via train? Do you get all teary when someone calls you out on your Harry Potter fetish because you know it should of ended before you hit 14?
people who think that only children enjoy harry potter are ridic ignorant, a lot of people started reading the books as kids like 10 years ago buy are now well in their 20s and STILL enjoy the books fyi. besides the last few books are hardly childrens stories. the books matured with the kids that read them.
9:24 So what is your point? I used to wear Osh Kosh when I was a toddler but I grew the fuck up. When do you think you'll stop watching Sesame Street? Does that have a 'socially-informed age limit'?
HP rocks no matter what age. It's awesome that kids and adults can both like the books and movies. If being an adult means you can no longer read books with any imagination in them then fuck being an adult.
also, it says "obviously includes adults" because harry potter was first published in 1997...that's 12 years ago, so someone could have started reading them as a child and now, because it's TWELVE years later...be an adult.
Geez people GET OVER IT. I'm 20 years old and I like Harry Potter. I practically grew up with the series. And when a guy I know asked me why I was going to see the 6th movie I said, "I couldn't just stop in the middle of the series. That's like blowing a guy and stopping halfway through...it's just wrong!" :-)
I think you missed my point entirely. It doesn't matter if kids watch the movies and like to dress up as wizards, or any of that crap, because a 'socially informed age limit' is just that - designed by society therefore it's not an actual constraint for people who don't give a crap what others think of them. You're the one who's saying that Harry Potter is for kids when I simply don't care because I like things that I like without worrying about stuff like that.
im assuming 8:52, 9:23 and 9:27 are the same person. stop checking back to see if someone has responded to your shit and go do some of those age-appropriate things that you are so up on your high horse about.
Those that are dogging it b/c it's "kids stuff" are lame and insecure. There are plenty of "kids stories" we all still enjoy. If Johnny Depp can star in movies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland and make them fascinating for adults, you can get off your high fucking horse about "kids' stories."
1st and foremost- not funny to make homosexual jokes, secondly- autism is not funny, and 3rd, Harry Potter will probably outlast any fucker ignorant enough to not read the books. XXX Love you all who love Harry Potter.
The movie sucked. Daniel Radcliffe looks autistic, no one in that movie can act, and that stupid "ink in water" effect for 95% of the movie needs to be retired indefinitely.
Ok so there is in total one obnoxious self-righteous person on here who doesn't like Harry Potter. I think all of you have made your point, Harry Potter is badass. Fin.
8:57 Wow it's like you're in my brain and you know everything about me. How on earth do you do that!? I have always said my life is constrained by socially-informed age limits (but doesn't everybody?) It's so accurate it's freakish. You have given me the courage to stand up and walk arm with arm with you shouting with pride "I LOVE READING KIDS' BOOKS!".
